It can be difficult to make decisions during times of stress or when helping a loved one. The following resources are available to seniors, individuals with disabilities, veterans, and families throughout Denton County.

SPAN, Inc. has served Denton County since 1974. Today, SPAN Transportation and Meals on Wheels of Denton County work together to provide nutrition, transportation, and supportive services that help people remain healthy, connected, and independent.

1. Home-Delivered Meals: Meals on Wheels of Denton County provides nutritious meals to eligible homebound seniors and individuals with disabilities who have difficulty preparing meals for themselves.
2. Congregate Meals: Adults age 60 and older and their spouses may participate in group lunches offered at senior centers throughout Denton County. These meals provide both nutrition and an opportunity for social interaction. Locations, schedules, and participation information are available through SPAN and Meals on Wheels.
3. Transportation: SPAN provides demand-response, shared-ride transportation services in Denton County. Services may include transportation for medical appointments, shopping, recreation, business, education, employment, senior centers, and other needs. Vehicles are equipped with lifts to accommodate passengers who use wheelchairs. Service availability, eligibility, and fares vary by location and type of service.
4. Veterans Transportation: SPAN provides transportation services for veterans, including transportation to DFW-area veterans clinics. Veterans should contact SPAN Transportation for current eligibility, scheduling, service-area, and fare information.
5. Senior Paws: Senior Paws provides monthly pet food assistance to eligible homebound clients. The program helps seniors care for their pets without having to choose between purchasing pet food and meeting their own nutritional needs.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers play an important role in delivering meals and supporting seniors throughout Denton County. Opportunities include regularly scheduled meal delivery as well as serving as a standby volunteer. SPAN provides training for Meals on Wheels volunteers.
